field marshal
Definition
(Noun) The highest Army rank in most nations.Usage: The United States has no field marshal rank, ostensibly because when the rank was being considered as one-step-up for four-star-generals in World War II, chief-of-staff George Marshall (so spelled) said he be damned if he'd be called "Marshal Marshall".
